Sarojesh Mukerjee

Praise for the book

A book on the legendary figure of David Hare has been long overdue, and Sarojesh Mukerjee fills the gap admirably in this well-researched and deeply felt narrative on the life and times of a man to whom so many owed so much in the early part of the nineteenth century in Bengal. Hare’s story – his passion and belief, his convictions and actions, his love and empathy – stands out as an example even today and reminds us that it is never too late to work towards better education for all, something we would do well to remember in these depleted times.

Niyogi Books deserves our gratitude for publishing a book on David Hare (1775-1842) who is a forgotten humanist and pioneer. But for him modern Indian education may not have come this far today.

It is gratifying to have Sarojesh Mukerjee as an author of this monograph.
